Can WE Find YOU In Case of an EMERGENCY?
What can be addressed? Only fixed (permanent) structures that are approved by the Hamilton County Building Department that are for human living or public businesses can be addressed in Hamilton County. We Do NOT address campers, motor homes, barns, tree houses, etc. These types of structures are not approved for a permanent residence and will not be recognized as a primary residences during disasters. Anyone who misrepresents the type of structure to obtain an address will be subject to criminal prosecution. If you need to obtain power for your property you will be assigned a “range” address. A range address cannot be used for 911 or mailing purposes. Hamilton County 911 has the capability of triangulating your cell phone to find your location should you need emergency services.
Address Number Placement Requirements Even if you receive your mail at a Post Office Box, you still must post your assigned address. Follow these rules in order to make sure emergency responders can find you. Every second counts! Size Requirements All permanent residential family homes must have numbers that are at least 3 inches high and have a contrasting background different from the house. Uncover the Numbers Several times per year, trim the bushes, vines, flowers and weeds so all numbers are clearly visible. Move flower baskets, flags and other items that may obstruct a clear view.
Be Visible From Both Directions Numbers on your mailbox should be posted on both sides. Emergency        vehicles may not arrive from the same direction as your mail carrier. Locate Near the Road If your house is not visible from the road, post numbers so that they are clearly visible from the road either on a pole, sign or post. If your house is across the street from a mailbox, or down the road from your mailbox, post the number along the driveway.
Driveways All driveways must provide a clear and passable access from the street and at the location from which the structure is addressed.   Post  Twice  on  Long or  Shared  Driveways If the driveway leads to more than one address, post all numbers at the end of the driveway and also post the correct number on each house.
Be Visible in the Dark Put the numbers on your house under a light. Numbers on a mailbox or post should be reflective.   Maintenance If address numbers become damaged for any reason, it is the owner’s            responsibility to fix them. Make sure the numbers are repaired and serve their purpose.

Every permanent home is assigned an address and it must have the address posted in a visible location.

Help Emergency Responders protect you and your family in the event of an emergency.  

By making sure your address is visible, you will allow Emergency Responders to locate you quicker.

Ordinance No. 97-02

Section 6 Penalty

Any person, firm entity, partnership, trust, corporation, association, or other organization failing to

comply with the provisions of the Ordinance within  thirty (30) days of assignment of an address number

or a change of address may be fined up to $250.00 for the first offense, and up to $500.00 for a second

offense.  A third offense shall constitute a second degree misdemeanor punishable as  provided by

general State law.
